My biggest learning this year has been in the importance of early interventions and putting in the hard work at the start to better support the individual and their family. Going from the adolescent inpatient unit to the CCU really opened up my eyes to this. By doing as much as we can for the client and their families to support them we can prevent them possibly spending numerous months or years in and out of psychiatric facilities. When working with adolescent there is the opportunity to set up good supports and complete some amazing work with them to set them up. This is especially important for diagnoses such as psychosis where early intervention can lead to better clinical outcomes of recovery for the individual. On the contrary though this can be so difficult with the demand for beds being high and the push to get people back into the community ASAP. It would be interesting to do research in the future on clients who have been taken off their CTO due to the stricter requirements in the new mental health act and readmission rates. Still can’t believe that we have reached the end of the grad program. It seems that time has flied but there were certainly times where I thought it was never going to end! Congratulations everyone for making it and all the best for the future!
