This year has been full on and hectic for me, especially given the distance to which I have to travel to work, study days and on top of it having university workload as well. At times it took a strain on me, even to the point where I questioned whether it was worth it. It was a struggle at the beginning and half way through the year, as this was my first job ever. This meant for me that I had to adapt to new coping strategies of dealing with stress, demands, managing my time and in-between that finding time for my personal life outside of work which was not easy, as I transitioned to one acute ward to another. However having the opportunity to work on both adolescent and adult acute inpatient ward assisted me to gain much understanding, knowledge, skills and confidents that I did not have in the beginning.
However with the support of my family, friends, colleagues and preceptors among many others I was able to work through my struggles and challenges that I faced along the way of completing my grad year. As the year comes closer to the end and the majority of my workload demands completed, it has become much easier and less stressful. I think my biggest learning this year has been getting the opportunity to realise my potentials as a nurse and also getting the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a nurse in charge which I enjoyed and look forward to getting more opportunities like this in the future. Also working with the different consumers, carers and families in collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams in planning, assessing and implementing care has been amazing.
