I have enjoyed my graduate year at Monash especially my placement at unit 2. My biggest learning curb I believe was the amount of consumers with aggressive behaviours, these where mostly consumers who had used Ice, and behaviour included, verbal abuse, violence, and self-harm. Learning how to manage aggressive clients at times was challenging especially when the consumer was very psychotic and did not know what they were doing. Learning off other experienced staff and learning about the Safewards model of care assisted my ability to manage these patients, thankfully I was never assaulted by any consumers and was able to deescalate any situation that arose. I look forward to learning more about de-escalation and ways to manage these consumers that are very difficult in the future.
