Completing the TMHN program this year has taught me a lot about working as an effective and efficient clinician, goal setting with realistic expectations and also the importance of maintaining work-life balance. It has been wonderful to be exposed to so many experienced clinicians from all healthcare disciplines, liaising with the whole multidisciplinary healthcare team, along with consumers and carers, contributing to developing and implementing care plans and evaluating progress and outcomes regularly. I have been able to note the effectiveness of treatment and recovery interventions where consumers and carers are actively involved in decision making. Setting goals which are realistic and achievable has been a challenge for me at times, and I have had to take into consideration the limitations of time and resources we have available in the public mental health setting. The importance of continuing professional development and regular debriefing/supervision has been evident in a busy and rapidly changing environment.
